01. Grandview State Park (now part of New River Gorge NP)

Its active railway and town of Quinnimont are visible from the area, where a coal mine was erected in 1873 from the gorge. 10. Green Bank Observatory

Green Bank Observatory started in Green Bank in 1956, and started operating only after 1958.

It was once the headquarters of the National Radio & Astronomic Observatory, and is now independently operated. There are several radio telescopes that measure radio waves received from space. The GreenBank Telescope is the most fully steerable radio telescope on the globe at 300 feet.

11. Cass Scenic Railroad State Park

On a line from 1909 to 1909 that was built to transport lumber out of the forest to a mill, you can recollect the Golden Age of Steam. This entire 4.5-hr journey contains switchbacks which allow trains to climb grades up to 10 percent to reach Bald Knob.

It is West Virginia's third highest mountain and offers breathtaking views. A logging camp of 1940 recreates on Whittaker Station. In the base, you'll visit museums and depots and visit restored companies houses rented to stay overnight.
